Context
When using MENU's internal Channels (Mobile, Web and Kiosk Apps), your Customers can leave a Tip - just like they could normally do when paying their dinner bill.
To show appreciation of your business, they can leave a percentage of the total to be paid.
Which Order Types does it work with?
Tipping works for all Order Types:
-
Dine-in QS
-
Dine-in Table Service
-
Takeout - In restaurant
-
Takeout - Curbside
-
Delivery
-
Foodspot (to be included in a future release, we will update the article once Foodspot Tips are available.)
However - please note that Tips are not supported for cash payments.
Also please note: depending on Order Types, the tip is distributed differently:
- For Dine-in Table Service, Dine-in QS, Takeout, Curbside: the tip goes to the staff
- For Delivery & Foodspot: the tip goes to the courier
Tips within Dispatch
When it comes to Dispatch, here's how Tips are supported:
- the information about Tips for drivers is automatically transferred to DSPs, currently enabled for Uber, Doordash and Ally
- Own Drivers from Stores can also get Tips; in this case the info is stored in the MENU Ecosystem
- The Store Manager will be able to generate a report on Tips per month by going to Delivery Hub, then Drivers, then Generate Tips Report, and see what drivers/DSPs need to receive for the given month
Tips within MENU Link - Marketplace Apps
Currently, Tips for Delivery and Takeout are implemented for these two apps:
- Doordash
- GrubHub
Tip calculation
-
Tip is not included in the subtotal calculation of the cart
-
Tip is not included in the VAT calculation. The VAT amount won't change if the Tip that is added to the Order increases or decreases
-
The number of loyalty points don't change due to the given Tip
How does it work?
Let's have a look in more details, starting from the configuration (your perspective as the business owner), through all the Apps (your Customers' experience), to Tablet App (restaurant staff) and email receipt (end of the Order).
Please note: Stores should only have Tips enabled if it is supported by our POS integration. Please check if your POS Integration supports Tips before making this configuration. These are the ones that currently support Tips functionality:
- Xenial Cloud
- Brink
- Lightspeed
- Simphony Gen2
- Novacom
- NCR BSL
CMS / Management Center
As of now, the configuration of the Tip can be done on the Store level in the CMS.
Tip Configuration
The main settings are:
-
Enable / Disable Tip per Order Type
-
Default Tip value
-
Maximum Tip value
Enable / Disable Tip per Order Type
-
When the Tip is enabled for the chosen Order Type, a slider for adding Tip to the Order will show up in the Channel Apps during the ordering flow
-
When the Tip is disabled for the chosen Order Type, a slider for adding Tip will not show up and the User will not be able to add a Tip to the Order
Default Tip value
-
If this value is set, it will automatically be preselected on a Tip slider during the ordering flow and included in the total Order calculation as a part of the Cart
-
If this value is left unset, 0% will be used as the default
Maximum Tip value
-
If this value is set, the User can select a Tip value from 0% to the maximum that is indicated
-
If this value is left unset, 100% will be used as the default
Order statistics & reporting
Just like for table service, a Tip value is visible for each of the Order Types available in the Store's (Venue's) order statistics page:
- order statistic page summary
- order detail view
- .XLS report downloads
Mobile App
-
Both logged in and not logged in Users can leave the Tip
-
On the order summary screen, it is always shown as the first thing above the Order calculation section
-
When Loyalty is enabled and the User is logged in, the Tip component is always displayed first, above the Points you'll earn component
-
If the Default value is set, the tip is automatically preselected and included in total calculations based on a value that is configured
-
If the cart total is 0.00 - Free, the Tip component won't be shown
-
When re-ordering an order for which a tip has been given, the calculation of the Tip value that was given for a previous order will be shown. If the Tip is now disabled, the component won't be shown
-
After an order is placed, the receipt screen includes the Tip as part of the calculation
-
If the Tip is set to 0% it will be shown as 0.00 in the Order summary, but removed from the receipt screen calculation section later after the Order has been placed because it wasn't added to the Order
- If the User cancels their Order, the Tip is refunded along with the total Order bill
