Overview
Split Payment allows customers to divide their total order amount across multiple payment methods. This feature is especially useful when combining different cards or gift cards for a single purchase.
Operator Steps
How to enable split payments from the Management Center
Within the MC, brands have the option to decide whether they would like their registered users to have access to split payment capabilities
- Go to Configurations > Brand Settings in the Management Center.
- Locate the Split Payment toggle.
- Switch the toggle ON to enable split payment.
- By default, this toggle is OFF.
- Save configuration.
Customer flow
To enable split payments
- The customer will go to Checkout.
- The can locate the Split Payment toggle on the checkout screen with the payment methods.
- Switch the toggle ON to enable split payment.
- By default, this toggle is OFF.
- Only credit/debit cards and gift cards are supported.
- Cash, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are not supported when split payment is enabled.
Adding and selecting payment methods
- Click “Add Payment Method” to add a new card or gift card.
- Use the checkboxes to select up to 4 payment methods.
- Unselected methods will appear disabled.
Auto Split Logic
- When two or more cards are selected, the system automatically splits the total amount.
- If you manually change the amount for one card:
- The remaining balance is automatically assigned to the other card(s).
- Auto split remains active unless you manually adjust multiple amounts
Gift Card Priority
- Gift cards are always used first.
- The full available balance of gift cards is applied before charging credit/debit cards.
- If the first gift card doesn’t cover the full amount, the system will:
- Use the next available gift card.
- Then use other selected payment methods if needed.
Validation & Error Handling
If the entered amount:
- If the customer enters values with exceeds the available balance:
- The “Place Order” button is disabled.
- The button text changes to “Amount exceeding: $X.XX”.
- If the customer enters values which is less than the total order amount:
- The button text changes to “Amount remaining: $X.XX”.
- If the balance is invalid (e.g., exceeds gift card balance):
- A validation message appears: “Amount exceeds balance…”.
- The User is returned to the input field for correction.
Rounding Rules
- If the total amount includes decimals:
- The system splits into whole numbers.
- The first payment method receives the remaining decimal value.
Resetting Split Payment
- Disabling the toggle will prompt a confirmation dialog.
- If confirmed, the system resets to the default state with the most recently added payment method.
Example Scenarios
3 Gift Cards + 1 Credit Card:
- The first gift card is used fully.
- Remaining balance is distributed across the other gift cards.
- Credit card is used only if needed.
