Context
To better manage users' expectations and to avoid overloading crew members, as well as bring the existing functionality in aggregator tablets as we replace them, we want to allow crew members to temporarily override the preparation time set in the CMS from the Tablet. For example, during a busier time of day, the preparation time might be higher due to high volume of orders, and we want customers to know what and when they can expect.
To make sure they don’t forget to change the preparation time back, the change should be temporary, similar to Menu availability.
Summary
-
Minimum and Maximum Preparation Times (the range of time) can be set at a Brand-level in the CMS (this feature is coming soon, currently we are using the default minimum and maximum values below):
-
Default Minimum: 2 minutes
-
Default Maximum: 90 minutes
-
-
Crew members can temporarily change the preparation time to a value between the Minimum and Maximum set at a Brand-level
-
Crew members can choose to temporarily update the preparation time for 30 minutes, 1 hour or 3 hours
Please note: The actual preparation time for the venue itself is set at a venue level. The value needs to be between that range that has been set at the brand level.

How to set it up?
-
Temporarily changing preparation time is a feature that is generally available for all brands
-
Tapping on the button located in the top navigation on the orders screen opens preparation time layover
-
Looking at a preparation time layover we see 3 different sections
1. In the first section we only show order types that are enabled for the current restaurant
2. In the second section we show the default current preparation time which is the exact preparation time set in the CMS
3. In the third section we give the user possibility to change the default preparation time by applying the new preparation time temporarily
-
For applying the new preparation time temporarily the user has to setup 3 elements:
1. Choose the exact number of minutes on a slider between the range of minimum and maximum preparation time configured in the CMS
2. Choose the active until time which is the time until this temporary estimated preparation time will be active
3. Tap on the Apply button
-
After tapping on the Apply button the new preparation time is temporarily set
-
When temporary preparation time is active, the button in the top navigation becomes orange (active) and shows the exact number of minutes that has just been set
-
Tapping on the preparation time button while it’s active opens preparation time layover in active state
-
When preparation time layover is in active state, we see:
-
New preparation time that is active
-
Time until the new preparation time will remain active
-
Default time that will come after when the temporary preparation time expires or the user taps on the stop button
-
-
When the temporary preparation time expires or the user taps on the stop button, the preparation time comes back to the default value of preparation time configured in the CMS
-
While default preparation time is active, the prep button in the top navigation is grey (inactive)
-
While it’s grey, it shows us the exact number of minutes set for default preparation time
-
-
If the user chooses to set a new preparation time that is exactly the same as the default preparation time, nothing happens. Tapping on Apply button in this case will dismiss preparation time layover.
-
If the Active for time runs out while the user has opened the active preparation time layover, it will automatically be dismissed, the same as if a user taps on the stop button
